Configuring the relationship between items of the Digital Twin

Items can be connected either via a parent-child relationship (such as a sensor in an oven) or via an in-line relationship (two ovens along a conveyor belt).

Items can be connected either via a parent-child relationship (such as a sensor in an oven) or via an in-line relationship (such as two ovens along a conveyor belt).

In-line relationships metadata on the distance between equipment and machines can be configured for future automatic space and time data realignment, enabling batch history tracking and intelligent solutions. In-line relationships can be either a Conveyor or a Pipe.

Types of parent-child relationships:

  • Area -> Area
  • Area -> Machine
  • Machine -> Machine
  • Machine -> Equipment
  • Equipment -> Sensor

Types of in-line relationships:

  • Machine – Machine
  • Equipment – Equipment

Connecting two items through a parent-child relationship

Connecting two items through an in-line relationship

On the Digital Twin > Chart top menu, navigate to where the two items you want to connect are located.

Click on the 'Connecting in-line mode' button.

Click on the upstream item and drag & drop on the downstream item.

Configuring the distance between in-line items

Right click on an in-line relationship and select 'Edit'.

On the Update Connection box, click Properties.

Enter the distance (in m) between the two items:

Right click on an in-line relationship and select 'Edit'.

On the Update Connection box, click 'Line'.

Select the 'Conveyor' or 'Pipe' type and click Save.
